Human Research Protection Program (HRPP)
A system of interdependent units and individuals interacting to achieve a common aim to protect research participant(s) in the conduct of Human Subjects Research (HSR). The UNC-Chapel Hill HRPP, in partnership with its research community, is responsible for ensuring the ethical and equitable treatment of all human subject(s) in research conducted under its auspices. The UNC-Chapel Hill HRPP consists of various individuals and committees such as: the Institutional Official (IO), the Director of the OHRE, the IRB Managers and staff, the Institutional Review Board (IRB)(s), the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) (e.g., for gene transfer research), Radiation Safety Committee (RSC), Radioactive Drug Research Committee (RDRC), Conflict of Interest (COI) Committee, Office of Sponsored Research (OSR), Legal Counsel, investigators, research staff, health and safety staff (e.g., Biosafety Officer, Radiation Safety Officer), and Investigational Drug Service (IDS) staff. The ultimate responsibility of the UNC-Chapel Hill HRPP resides with the Institutional Official. UNC-Chapel Hill OHRE: SOP 101
