Expedited review

« Back to Glossary Index

Review of proposed research involving no more than minimal risk to participant(s). An expedited review is generally conducted by reviewers in the UNC-Chapel Hill Office of Human Research Ethics (OHRE) rather than the convened Institutional Review Board (IRB). Federal rules permit expedited review for certain kinds of research involving no more than minimal risk and for minor changes in approved research.
